A Backup Is Not the Same as a Recovery Plan

Why protected copies, restoration priorities, system dependencies, and practical documentation belong in the same conversation.

Sample article: Replace or approve this editorial draft before publishing it as a current CBS article. Add named source links and footnotes whenever a future article makes factual or statistical claims.

Copies are only one part of recovery

Backup answers an important question: is there a protected copy of the information? Recovery adds several more questions, including what must return first, what systems depend on one another, who makes decisions, and how access will be restored.

Businesses get a clearer plan when those questions are discussed before an urgent event.

Define what the business needs first

Not every file, application, or system has the same operational priority. Recovery planning should connect technical restoration steps with the order in which the business needs to resume work.

Identify critical information and systems
Document dependencies and responsible contacts
Monitor backup health and exceptions
Review and test realistic restoration steps

Sources and footnotes

No external factual claims are included in this sample, so no source links are required yet.
